Dear R&O musicians,
Thanks for letting me know that you will be
joining Rum and Onions this year.
To remind you all, the R&O Halloween dance
this year is scheduled for Saturday, October 28 with caller Beth Molaro from
Asheville, NC. The location is still being finalized. This year, the dance
will be held in the evening only, preceded by a pot-luck supper, starting at
6:00pm.
REHEARSALS
We will be having five rehearsals on Sundays in
September and October. Note that the time of the rehearsal on October 15 has
had to be changed because of a conflict for the rehearsal space in the
evening. The last rehearsal on Sunday October 22 when we run through all the
program will be longer than the others, starting in the afternoon with the
usual pot-luck supper in the middle.
Dates and times of rehearsals
Sept 10, 24, Oct 8: 7-10 pm
Oct 15: 3-6 pm (note the change in time
for this rehearsal)
Oct 22: 3-10 pm
Location - Suzanne Patterson Center, Princeton
Directions
From I-95: From 95 N, take exit 7B and follow
206 N for several miles into Princeton. After the traffic light at Library
Place, continue 0.1 mile, then turn left onto Monument Drive. (If you reach
the traffic light where 206 meets Nassau Street [NJ 27], you've gone too far.)
SPC is all the way back on the right.
From I-295: From 295 N, take 95 S to exit 7B
(Route 206) and follow I-95 directions above.
From Route 1: take Alexander Road exit westbound into Princeton; turn right
onto University Place, left onto Nassau St., and bear left through the light
onto Stockton St./Route 206 South. Take first right into Monument Drive.
SPC is all the way back on the right.
From NJ Turnpike South: take exit 9 onto Route 18 N, exit onto Route 1 S,
go about 10 miles and exit onto Alexander
Street then follow Route 1 directions above.
By train: take NJ Transit's northeast corridor
line, get a ticket all the way to Princeton and change at Princeton Junction
for the rail shuttle to Princeton (the "dinky"). From the
dinky station proceed uphill on University Place toward Nassau; cross Nassau
and turn left; proceed across Bayard Lane (Route 206) and past Princeton
Borough Hall, toward the battle monument. When you reach the monument,
turn right and walk past Borough Hall to the building in the rear - that's the
SPC. It's a five- to ten-minute walk from the station.
ATTENDANCE
Although we play tunes mainly from the contra
dance repertoire, we always include a few surprises in tunes and special
arrangements which is why we ask you attend most of the rehearsals; if you
must miss one or two, let me know.
THE WARM-UP DANCE
In addition to the Halloween dance, R&O
will also perform for the weekly contra dance in Princeton on Wednesday
October 25 8-10:30pm, once again at the Suzanne Patterson Center. You don't
have to take part in this performance but it helps us all to appreciate that
we are playing for dancing.
We have some great tunes to play and I am
looking forward to working with you to make R&O XXVII a fun event for all!
Michael
