Rum & Onions

Rum & Onions is PCD's contra dance orchestra that plays for the Rum & Onions Halloween contra dance. It has been in existence for more than 30 years, and it typically plays twice per year--once for the all-day Saturday Halloween dance of the same name, and again in the following spring at New England Folk Festival (NEFFA) in Boston. Each performance features the band members in costume. The band also warms up for those two big gigs by playing for a weekly dance before each performance.

As with the pickup band, players of all skill levels are welcome to play in R&O, but they must attend most of the six weekend rehearsals. The band's purpose is to foster contra dance musical experience among local players. Participating is also fun and a great way to get to know the other musicians. To sign up, contact bandleader Bob Pasquarello (click here to email), or with any other questions pertaining to playing this year.

Please note that for 2023, R&O will return to the usual order of events: the afternoon dance and potluck are back, so events will begin at 3:00 pm for experienced dancers, 6:00 pm for the potluck dinner, and 7:30 for all dancers. Also, the dance will be held in our normal dance hall, the Suzanne Patterson Center in Princeton.
