PCD In-Person Dancing Resumes

PCD will have its first in-person contra dance in over a year, featuring Blue Jersey and caller Bob Isaacs.

Blue Jersey is Allan Rubin, Frank Ruck, Ellen Ruck, Ed Jankiewicz

Come at 7:30 for our Basics in Contra Dance Workshop, or 8 pm for the first dance.
Social dancing, no partner or experience required, break for refreshments around 9:30.

Requirements for admission to the dance:

  • One-time showing of proof of vaccination, eg a CDC card, an Excelsior Pass, etc.

  • One-time signing of waiver provided by SPC

  • This and every dance: signing a Covid screening questionnaire provided by SPC

  • There will be a list at the dance of people who have submitted the information above, and you can expedite your admission to the dance by scanning your proof of vaccination and completing the waiver in advance and emailing them to pcd_ex(at)googlegroups(dot)com. Combination Contra and English Dance

There will be a combination contra dance and English country dance featuring The Flying Buttresses, with Donna Hunt and Robert Mills calling.

The Flying Buttresses are Bob Pasquarello, Bob Stein, Kathy Talvitie, and Miranda Weinberg.

All-day Contra Dances

There will be an experienced-only contra dance from 3:00 to 6:00, potluck from 6:00 to 7:30, and contra dance for all from 8:00 to 11:00.  Music will be by Live Wire (Sarah Gowan, Ben Kennedy,

Tom Krumm, and Bill Quern) and calling by Alex Deis-Lauby.

Note: the calling for Aug 28 will be larks and robins.

An annual Gala Halloween Contra Dance

Please join us for:

3:00 Afternoon Dance for EXPERIENCED DANCERS

6:00 Potluck Supper.  Bring a substantial dish to share; drinks provided by PCD.

7:00 Contra Dance Basics Workshop/Warm-up.  A fun intro to contra dance basics.   Everyone welcome.

7:30 Costume Parade & Dance.  Parade immediately followed by contra dancing for all till 11:00, costumes encouraged!

9:00 Refreshment Break.  Contributions (sweets, fruit, savory and salty snacks) gratefully accepted

 

An afternoon dance, a potluck dinner, a costume parade, the Basics Workshop, and the evening dance, complete with dessert break!

Prices:   All day/ afternoon only/ evening only

General admission:   $30/ $16/ $18

Students/limited income:   $18-30/ $11-16/ $13-18

Children:   $12/ $7/ $7

Cancelled: Head for the Hills 2020

Next year: 11/12/2021 - 11/14/2021

Due to concerns about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this event has been cancelled. We look forward to enjoying some time in the Poconos at next year's Head for the Hills event, November 12- 14, 2021.

PCD’s getaway weekend in the Poconos, Head for the Hills

 

November 13-15, 2020

A full weekend of contra and English country dancing, as well as workshops in several other folk and traditional dance styles.  You can expect great bands, callers, and instructors; live music; a special Saturday evening banquet with partner dancing; an evening ceilidh in the main hall; campfire (with singing); and wonderful friendships to develop.

Cancelled: Winter Cotillion

December 13, 2020

Update: Due to ongoing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, this dance has been cancelled.

The Cotillion is the dressiest event on our calendar, but don't feel compelled to dress up.  A potluck with mood lighting, performances from the Cotillion Singers and our ritual dance teams, even some group participation in carol singing will be interspersed with regular contra and English country dancing.

5 pm: Candlelit Potluck Dinner

6:30 pm: seasonal entertainment by local dance teams and carol singing for all

7-10 pm: Contra and English country dancing with a concert by The Cotillion Singers

Bring a potluck item or a ready-to-serve dessert for the break!

Admission $17, Students/Limited Income $10-$17

Note: This event will not be held in our regular dance hall.  It will be at the Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State Street, Trenton, NJ.
